New envoy presents credentials to OAS
Belize has a new ambassador to the Organisation of American States. On Thursday Lisa Shoman presented her credentials to Secretary General Cesar Gaviria at OAS headquarters in Washington D.C. Shoman thanked the OAS chief for acting as a “witness of honour” to the ongoing talks with Guatemala, which are being held under OAS supervision. Although now resident in the U.S. capital, Shoman is still waiting to present her credentials to President Bill Clinton. Clinton is now on a tour of Africa and is expected to meet with Shoman once his schedule can be cleared. The new ambassador, who replaces James Murphy, will also be accredited to Canada and should soon be traveling to Ottawa to formalize that relationship. Belize has been a member of the OAS since 1991.
