ComPol Says Investigation into Saldivar and Longsworth Progressing Slowly

Last week news broke that the Belize Police Department had lodged a formal request with relevant government agencies to get documentation as a part of investigation into Belmopan Area Representative John Salidvar. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that the request for documents also include those from the Lev Dermen Trial. Williams gave an update into what the department is doing in connection with Saldivar, as well as on Herman Longsworth, the former minister of state.

“We had made submissions to the different departments requesting that information and yes where that information is concerned the state of emergency has set us back significantly. We have made our request to the U.S.A. through the neutral legal assistance treaty and we are still awaiting a response from them in order to get a true picture of what was said in court in Utah, as well as the police investigation file involving Lev Dermen to see if there is anything we can get from that to indicate whether or not the former minister had committed some criminal act. So, that is where we are with that matter.”

“Likewise for Mr. Herman Longsworth and the matter with National Sports Council?”

“Likewise with that matter we have requested a number of evidential materials in the form of documents from the different government departments. And we are getting some obstacles, I will admit that. I have spoken yesterday to the heads of those departments and they have agreed that they are going to assist with the investigation to give us what it is that we need. If it is that we need something that is essential in proving a point in the investigation and we are getting road blocks  then we will be going to the court for the court to issue an order for us to get that information.”
