Is Money for Election?
But Lead P.U.P. Senator Michel Chebat is asking where the millions of dollars went, concluding that the government is asking for money for electioneering.
Michel Chebat, Lead P.U.P. Senator
“A hundred million dollars, Mister President. Can you grasp how much money that is? How many Belizeans could have benefited from that hundred dollars that they were giving out if that hundred million dollars was invested in the people? Where did that money go? I don’t see any mass testing by the government, I don’t see any new health protocols, I don’t see any new or expanded hospitals. Where is the money? Why has that money not been accounted for but we are now asking for more money? This loan is supposedly targeted at forty thousand people. There is no epiphany here, Mister President, this is the same forty thousand people that were identified back in April. Where is the assistance for them? Why did they not benefit from that hundred million dollars. But yet, this loan motion, as I understand it, is geared towards benefiting forty thousand people with three hundred dollars over a period of three months. Why three months? What is so magical about three months. It is very clear, elections. Elections di come Mister President. It is inescapable, forgive me. But it is inescapable that this is election money.”
