Man dies in San Pedro electrocution
On Friday we ran a story about the need for consumers to take care when working around high voltage transmission lines; today we regret to report that for the second time in a week a man has been the victim of an electrocution accident; this time it proved fatal. The latest incident took place Saturday morning at San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Jose Sanchez and three other men working for a private developer were planting a wooden pole to carry a telephone line, when it fell and touched a BEL high-tension wire. The pole, which was wet, became energized and while the three men freed themselves, Sanchez could not. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Pedro Lions Clinic. The accident took place in a swampy area north of the ferry crossing. The earlier injury, which occurred on August fifth in the Belama area of Belize City has left sixteen year old Esau Perez with an amputated arm and severe burns.
