U.B.F.S.U. Still Not Certified Despite Assurances from Labor Department
The failure to have the union certified, according to Doctor Pio Saqui, falls squarely on the Department of Labour since a letter sent to U.B.F.S.U. on January twenty-ninth indicated that all requirements for the body to be formally recognized had been met. Despite the postponement of the certification ceremony, assurances to provide the U.B.F.S.U. certificate have still not be honoured by the Ministry of Labour.
Dr. Pio Saqui, President, U.B.F.S.U.
“About a week or so ago, two weeks ago, a person acting on our behalf called the minister, Dr. Barnett, on a phone conversation and asked if this letter is good enough for us to negotiate. Dr. Barnett indicated so and she said that we would have our certificate in two weeks. It’s now almost two weeks and why we don’t know the date when that two weeks will be, we are hoping that they are going to act and we don’t have to take this any further, but it is clear that right now we need the union to be recognized and be respected and given its certification because that seems to be the only way. If that signature evidently is so critical for the board in order for us to tell them that the process that should be followed is not being followed and they need to follow the process that would ensure transparency and proper consultation.”
