New UDP Senator needed as Matura leaves to study
She is no stranger to Belize’s legal system and now the outspoken journalist-turned-politician has decided to embark on a new career as a lawyer. A release from the United Democratic Party has announced that Audrey Matura Tillett, UDP Senator and editor of the party’s newspaper, The Guardian, will shortly be leaving Belize to study law. She has been accepted as a student at the University of Guyana in Georgetown and will begin her course work at the end of this month. The UDP is now looking for both a new senator and a new editor…not necessarily in one person. News Five takes this opportunity to wish our old reporter the best of luck in her new profession. In related news another opposition figure will be taking up studies abroad. John Saldivar, former head of Recondev and defeated candidate in the Cayo South constituency, will leave for Florida State University later in August to pursue a doctorate in economics. The two and a half year program would put him back in Belize in time for the 2003 elections.
