British grant fights poverty
A British initiative to help eradicate poverty in Belize has resulted in a major grant to government. It was announced today that Acting British High Commissioner Martin Fidler has signed an agreement with Prime Minster Said Musa, under which the UK will provide almost 5.7 million Belize dollars to fund projects to assist low income individuals. The bulk of the grant will be spent in fourteen villages in the Belize, Cayo and Toledo Districts. The projects include the provision of potable water, schoolbooks and school furniture. The Stella Maris School in Belize City will also be helped with various physical improvements.
