Independence Police Officer Charged for Rape of Minor

The Belize Police Department has charged one of its own following on a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions following an allegation of sexual assault on a minor. Nelson Ramos, a police officer attached to the Intermediate Southern Formation in Independence Village, has been charged for the offence of Rape and Sexual Assault of a seventeen-year-old female minor and was today arraigned for the crime. On July sixth, the minor was intercepted and taken into custody for driving without a valid driver’s license. The minor alleged that Ramos asked her if she had anything to offer and in exchange, she would not face any traffic-related offences. She was then reportedly taken to Savannah Road where the officer forced her into a sexual act.
