Cyclist prepare for Cross Country
In less than two weeks, riders from many countries will flock to Belize for the country’s biggest racing event: the Holy Saturday Cross Country Classic. Here at home, our athletes are training hard to regain the garland and as such are participating in races leading up to the event. On Sunday, ten Belizean riders in three teams participated in the first Clasica Maya Superior de Ciclismo in Carillo Puerto, Mexico. When the ninety mile competition ended, a Belizean was crowned the winner, while four others placed in the top five. Brandon Cattouse of C-Ray took first place, Mexican rider Donizettie Vasquez was second, Benny’s rider Byron Pope came in third, Quinton Hamilton of Sugar City was fourth, while Mateo Cruz of Sugar City rounded out the top five. In the Masters category Ray Cattouse Sr. placed fifth.
