Taiwan funds new Foreign Affairs building
“Show me the money” was a line made famous by Tom Cruise in his film portrayal of sports agent Jerry Maguire. Prime Minister Said Musa may not be as wealthy as the Hollywood star, but that did not stop him from being shown some big money today in Belmopan. Taiwanese Ambassador Charles Tsai, on behalf of his government, presented a cheque for eight hundred and thirty-three thousand dollars to Musa this morning. The money will be used to construct a new building to house the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The gift is part of a project under which Taiwan is assisting a number of Central American nations to upgrade their foreign ministries. It is hoped that when the new building is erected the ministry will also spring for more phone lines. Any journalist, let alone diplomat, who has ever tried to call Foreign Affairs knows that the lines can be busy for days.
