Widow of B.D.F. Airman May Be Asked to Relocate from Price Barracks
The widow of one of those deceased airmen continues to reside at Price Barracks, despite the likelihood that she will be asked to vacate the home since, as a civilian, she has no legal grounds to remain on the military compound . It is on that basis, Matura says, that a request for an advance was made in order for the wife to cover the cost of relocating from Price Barracks.
Audrey Matura, Attorney-at-Law
“I know one of the ladies live on the B.D.F. camp; I had advised her that ultimately they will ask her to move from there because when you’re a spouse of someone in the military you live there because he’s there. The spouse has died, the officer has died, she does not as a civilian have that entitlement to stay on that place. Someone like her, immediately you should give an advance. She clearly needs to move, get a house, her kids are in school and all of that. Her whole life is disrupted. I think there is a need for some level of common sense and in this case, the AG, of all people, knows that he can give the advance. In the meantime, for my cases, for my two clients, I am going through the court process and hoping that they would expedite the letters of administration which is that order of the court saying Mrs. Choco or Mrs. Mendez are the lawful administrators of the estate of their spouses and when we presented that then to the government then they will disburse the money.”
