Dead foetus found in canal

Story Picture
Late this evening, News Five received a report that a foetus was found floating in the South Creek in Belize City. When our crew got to the scene, the police had just picked up the foetus, believed to be a boy, and transported it to the KHMH morgue. Elvis Lewis, who witnessed the gruesome discovery, said he noticed that a crowd had gathered by the creek and when he went to investigate the commotion, he could not believe what he saw.

Elvis Lewis, Witness

“I saw a crowd on the bridge and I wanted to know what was going on, so I wanted to know what was going on, on the bridge and if it was alligators, because I know that some small alligators live in this canal. So when I came on the bridge and I saw that they were playing with a piece of stick and they are pushing it in the water. So when I came close, they told me that it was a baby. When I looked I saw the small little thing between six and ten inches. And it looked like a baby to me because it had hands, it had feet, its belly everything, and it showed the umbilical cord and all. Afterwards, one of the neighbours, went to the nearby phone booth and called for the police.”

The foetus was found by two women who were walking in the area. The police will be conducting interviews to see if they can get an identity of the mother. Not until a post mortem examination is conducted will we know what really transpired at South Creek. If you have any information that can help the police in their investigation, please call CIB at telephone number 77489.
