U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Visits the Chiquibul
U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Keith Gilges visited the Chiquibul Forest Reserve on Wednesday with Friends for Conservation and Development to learn more about the environmental challenges that forest faces. A US embassy release states that the United States is committed to the preservation of the Chiquibul, which plays a vital role in the cultural and environmental health of Belize and the entire region. This year, major protected areas in the region, including the Chiquibul Forest Reserve were affected by forest fires. The Chiquibul provides a diverse habitat for a wide range of plants and animals and encompasses the largest and longest cave system in Central America.
