Social Security Board to launch new card
The Belize Social Security Board is back in the news once again. This time it’s proud to say that it will soon be launching its newly improved Social Security Card to the public. If you have already taken your picture and signed up, then on August first, you can walk right into the Social Security building on Princess Margaret Drive and receive your new card. However, if you are sixty-five years or older, you will have to wait a bit longer as the board is putting together a special Gold Card for senior citizens. According to an S.S.B. release the card will also serve as a national identity document. In addition, the Board is hoping that someday, cardholders will be able to access their pension payments from A.T.M. machines and also to access proper health services when the National Health Insurance Scheme comes into effect. Speaking of N.H.I., government will introduce legislation in the House on Friday to implement the Health Insurance Program. The plan will provide for access to improved health care for all Belizeans and will be financed by increased payroll deductions for all workers.
