A Suspected Arsonist is Charged for Lighting Tires Outside of Belize Bank
Suspected arsonist Kareem Arnold has been arrested and charged for setting fire to several used car tires on the Belize Bank property in downtown Belize City. The incident happened on Thursday morning, following the unrest that had taken place across town at the Port of Belize compound a day earlier. It is not clear what connections Arnold had with the incident at P.B.L. on Wednesday, but after reviewing surveillance footage, he was seen exiting a Ford pickup truck and lighting the tires on fire.
Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“On Thursday, July 23rd, 2020, Shanelle Reneau, thirty-five-year-old Belizean monitor of Belize Bank, Belize City, reported that they reviewed their video footage and saw a Ford F250 pickup drop off some tires on the sidewalk beside the bank and lit the tires on fire. Thereafter the tires were extinguished. An investigation was carried out which led to police detaining one person, Kareem Arnold has since been arrested and charged for the crime of attempted arson and the Ford F250 was found and has been impounded at the police station.”
