An Increasing Number of Gun Violence in Corozal

Joseph Myvett

Since the murder of Jenkins, there have been two other shootings incidents in that northern district – one which occurred on Saturday night that left one person injured and then there is the execution of Jair Tamay.  ACP Joseph Myvett spoke about the spike in gun violence in the north; while he did not say what the root behind it was, he ensured that the authorities are addressing it.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Police did receive a report on Saturday morning from one Sheldon Welch of a Corozal Town address who reported to police that sometime around 10:00 a.m. while inside his yard, he was approached by one Samuel Bevans who pointed a firearm towards his direction and attempted to fire shot, but the gun apparently misfired. As a result, police conducted an investigation which led to the detention of Samuel Bevans who has since been arrested and charged for the crime of aggravated assault.”

“Is there what appears to be perhaps a related spike in violent crimes in Corozal?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“We have seen a number of violent crimes over the last week or so in the Corozal district which we are addressing at this point in time.”

Isani Cayetano

“What would this increase in crime be attributed to?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this point, we do not know.”
