U.S. student raped in San Ignacio
With the usually peaceful town of San Ignacio still reeling from Monday evening’s execution style murder, word has reached News Five of another crime in the area. Police have confirmed that on Friday night a twenty-two year old woman from the United States reported that she was raped. The university student, who is attending a summer archaeological field project conducted by local archaeologist Jaime Awe, told police that around 10:45 she was at the Culture Club Disco where she met a man who gave his name as Alex Williams. Williams offered to take her on a tour of Cayo nightspots and the pair apparently went barhopping in Alex’s white van, which displayed California license plates. At the end of the night, instead of being dropped off at her residence at the Cahal Pech Hotel, the woman was taken to the nearby race track where she was forced to have sex against her will. Police are looking for Williams, although they do not believe that his first name is Alex. Five days after the rape took place the suspect is still at large. So too are the two men who gunned down twenty-year old Geoffrey Mas at the Cahal Pech Maya site, the killer of nineteen year old Julio Guzman of Belmopan and the trio who slaughtered twenty-one year old Orvin White on Iguana Street in Belize City.
