Update on Developments in U.B.F.S.U. Vs UB Board of Trustees
There are some small developments in the matter of the University of Belize and the UB Faculty and Staff Union. News Five understands that on Monday the Union and the UB’s senior administration held a high level meeting. The UB administration reportedly agreed to and promised to disclose the financial records to the union. The union, at this time, awaits receipt of those documents. From what we were told, the union members remain hopeful and see this as a significant step towards their involvement in the matters at hand. As we’ve been reporting, President Clement Sankat and the Board of Trustees have announced that the university will have to find ways to survive a budgetary shortfall of seven point one million dollars. The union has been demanding to be included in those discussions, as they believe the changes will impact their stakeholders. They have been reporting that they have not been able to contribute to the recommendations, as they need to have access to the full financial records to make informed suggestions on what austerity measures the institution should take.
