The Coastguard Appoints its First Female Vice Commandant

The Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, Captain Elton Bennett, is heading to the United Kingston for further studies. Bennett will be on leave for a year beginning in August to pursue studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies. The year-long strategic studies will advance his capacity in matters of national security. Commander Gregory Soberanis assumes command as Acting Commandant. Lieutenant Commander Alma Pinelo will be bumped up as the acting Vice Commandant of the Coastguard. She is the first female to be named to that post.
