Two men charged in machete fight
An altercation involving two men and a woman in the Stann Creek District has left both guys wounded and arrested. According to police reports, on Friday afternoon twenty-year old Honduran Lazaro Salinas of Mayan King Village went looking for his former common law wife, Noelia Diaz. Reports are that he tracked her down at the residence of thirty-three year old Guatemalan farm worker Gonzalo Martinez, also of the same village. Police say Salinas told them that although he and Diaz had separated he was not aware that she had moved in with Martinez. Apparently the situation so upset Salinas that when he saw his former lover, he pulled out a machete and placed it at her neck. However, Martinez, who was out in the fields, came home shortly afterward and a struggle ensued between the two men. Both men were taken to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga suffering from chop wounds on their arms. Following their release over the weekend, the two were arrested and charged. This morning when they appeared in the Dangriga Magistrate Court, Salinas was fined eight hundred dollars for wounding and aggravated assault while Martinez was fined three hundred dollars for wounding.
