Jamie Patnett Charged for Murder, Gets Bail
Twenty-five-year-old Jamie Patnett, who was on remand for the March 2017 murder of eighteen-year-old Kerona Ara, was granted Supreme Court bail of thirty thousand dollars on Thursday after his attorney argued that the Prosecution seems not to be able to produce any forensic evidence against Patnett. Attorney Dickie Bradley argued before Justice Colin Williams that the Prosecution has been unable to commence its case against Patnett because DNA sample has not been sent overseas as yet for testing, and the Prosecution has asked for a further adjournment until the end of the year in December. Justice Williams granted bail but with strict conditions. Ara’s body was discovered by a security guard at the Belmopan dumpsite after it had been set on fire the same day that she went missing. She had been stabbed multiple times and her throat was slashed. Tattoos were the only distinguishing marks that led her family to be able to identify that she was the victim. Another man was also charged along with Patnett for the murder.
