Protesters criticise Yabra project
It’s a story that–pardon the expression–refuses to die. Once again a handful of people marched around the Yabra Cemetery, protesting the ongoing construction of a community project in the area. The protestors say they have no problem with the construction of houses in the Albert Division but they do not believe any buildings should be erected on a cemetery. Sydney Fuller, who organized this morning’s peaceful demonstration, says he is very concerned that the present construction is coming too close to his family’s tombstone. When News Five contacted Albert Division representative Mark Espat, he said he does not know what today’s fuss is about because as far as he is concerned, the project speaks for itself and nothing has changed from the plan outlined to the public on numerous occasions. When questioned in the past, Espat has stated that the cross erected by Fuller, purportedly on his ancestor’s grave, would not be disturbed. The Yabra project encompasses the construction of housing, a recreation centre and sporting facilities.
