Two killed in highway accidents
The weekend was also a dangerous one for people on the road as two men were killed in separate traffic accidents. On Friday Reagan Montero died in a traffic accident on mile four on the Southern Highway. According to police, Montero was a passenger in a Toyota Pickup driven by Deon Dawson. The two were heading toward Silk Grass Village from Dangriga when their vehicle collided head-on into a dump truck driven by Paul Myvette. Montero suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Southern Regional Hospital, while Dawson sustained a broken left arm and injuries to his left foot and head and was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Myvette, who was allegedly driving without lights, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, negligent harm and driving a motor vehicle without right and left head lamp lighted.
Early this morning an Esperanza man lost his life after being knocked down on the Western Highway. Around 1:00 a.m. Marvin Sedacey and his brother Carl were walking on the Western Highway in Esperanza Village, when they were hit by a taxi driving toward Belmopan. Marvin died instantly while Carl remains injured in the Belmopan Hospital. According to our sources the driver of the taxi, identified only as Martinez is in police custody. When contacted this evening police declined to confirm the details of the incident.
