Major Crimes are Down for the First Half of 2020!

While crime is abundant, tonight police are reporting good crime stats for the first half of this year.  Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that major crimes are down, with specific reference to a decrease in murders particularly gang related murders in Belize City.

“The contributing factor, we see a significant reduction in gang related offences. The decrease can be attributed mostly to Belize City where we have seen a significant reduction in the amount of murders and robberies. While we look at the other districts, example, the northern region – murder is up by two; southern region – murder is up by three; western region – murder is down by two. So, we see increases in the north and the south where murder is concerned but where other major crimes are concerned we are down across the country. But at the end of the day I have always said to the officers, murder is what counts for me because murder is a life lost. The more murders we can prevent the better it is for us.”
