Investigation into death of canero almost complete
And while at their last press conference police said their investigations continued on the shooting death of canero, forty-four year old Antanacio Gutierrez, News Five has gathered that the file on that investigation may be completed as early as next week. Over the past week investigators returned to the north to obtain additional information about the fatal shooting, which occurred on February second at Tower Hill during a riot staged by caneros against the now historic core sampling method of checking cane quality. But while police have in their possession several more statements from protestors on the scene, those documents are also said to not contain much substance in as far as putting together strong evidence of who fired the bullet. And now police are turning to video images to try to piece the story together. The file is expected to be delivered to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions following the Easter break. Gutierrez, a villager of San Victor in the Corozal District, was in a truck at Tower Hill among striking farmers when he was hit by a fatal shot in the head as the truck headed towards the core sampler.
