6 year old drowns in Stann Creek
Four days after six-year old Myrna Susan Rivera apparently fell into the North Stann Creek River and disappeared underwater, the young girl’s lifeless body was found floating near her family’s house near mile seven on the Stann Creek Valley Road. According to the young girl’s mother, Lourdes Rivera, on Sunday her daughter had gone to the river with her four-year old sister without permission. Rivera reported to police that when she could not find the girls, she went looking for them. That’s when she saw only Lydia who then told her mother where they had gone and that as they reached the river, Myrna slipped and fell into the water. The young girl’s body was discovered around eleven on Thursday morning. A post mortem examination certified that Rivera died due to asphyxia caused by drowning.
