Man Chopped to the Head during Home Invasion in Belize City

Also here in Belize City, after three o’clock this morning, Trevor Gill was chopped on his hands and head.  Gill was in deep slumber at his nephew’s house on New Road when he came under attack from an intruder who made his way inside the house through an unlocked door. Gill was taken to the K.H.M.H. for medical treatment. News Five’s Duane Moody has the following report.

A home invasion in Belize City has left one man hospitalized with chop wounds to the head and hands. Trevor Gill was sleeping when an assailant entered into the house on New Road via an unsecured door and inflicted the chop wounds. Gill’s sister got the call just after the incident.

“I get a phone call from my bredda stating that they chop my next bredda ina ih head. I said, “Why, weh ih do?” And he say he noh know. They just call him and say that he mi di sleep and dehn chop ahn ina ih head. I really noh know weh cause it, I noh know what dah di problem, but that dah weh I hear. I gone dah the hospital and I see ahn; ih got ih head band up. Tell me how di bwai come ina di house while he di sleep and chop ahn. He noh make out ih face or whatever.”

“Yeah he good; he di talk. Ih mi di cry cause ih say di wai chance ahn ina ih sleep.”

 

After inflicting the injuries, the assailant fled the scene. Gill then screamed for help and was assisted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

“Police visited the K.H.M.H. where they saw Trevor Gill with chop wounds to his head and hands. He reported that he was sleeping at a friend’s house on New Road and at some point a male person entered the house and inflicted the injuries to him. The male person after fled the area. Trevor Gill is in a stable condition.”

 

The incident came as a shock to Gill’s family because he lives in Mango Creek and was only visiting for a few days when he was injured in the wee hours of today. Luckily he survived the attack.

“I dah like fi he ma and I ask he if he deh ina any problem, he woulda call me and tell me who or what or what happen. But he noh have no problem with nobody; he noh even live here. He live way dah Mango Creek. He only came for the weekend and say he was going back Friday because he di wait fi something from somebody weh fi give ahn wah money by Friday. I noh know; that dah weh ih tell me yesterday when ih come here come eat.”

 

Police say that there is no suspect at this time, but investigations are ongoing to determine if he was in fact the intended target of the assault or simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.
