Fuller remains incarcerated at the prison

Story PictureTonight Belizean businessman, Rhett Fuller remains incarcerated at the central prison in Hattieville. Fuller has been there since Friday evening, the day his extradition appeal was dismissed by the Appeals’ Court Justices. According to his Attorney, Eamon Courtenay, he has filed an application for bail and they are waiting for a date to be set for that hearing; hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday. Courtenay is also awaiting word from Minster of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington. The attorney says he has written to Elrington asking for the procedure to appeal to the minister, since there is no precedent in writing. Courtenay also says he already has his files prepared to go to the Privy Council should it come to that. In the meantime, News Five understands that the U.S government is pressing Belizean authorities to hand over Fuller, but that cannot be done until the appeals process has been exhausted. U.S. law enforcement has been after Fuller for almost twenty years in connection with the 1990 murder of Florida resident, Larry Miller. They filed for his extradition in 1998 and in 1999 Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord ruled that there was enough evidence for him to be sent to the U.S. to face the charges. The case has been bogged down in courts since then with Fuller maintaining his innocence.
