OW East Area Rep., Pledges to Assist Santa Marta Villagers
Santa Martha Village in the Orange Walk District remains under lockdown tonight, where there is a community spread of the COVID-19 virus with an additional case being recorded on Monday. The population is about three hundred persons and the tiny village is located on the Old Northern Highway, a far distance from Orange Walk Town and much of the needed services and goods. There is one or two stores in the village that do not carry all the supplies needed by residents. Area Representative Elodio Aragon Junior says that products will continue to be delivered to the village during the fourteen-day lockdown.

“Santa Marta is a small village and one of the challenges it has is that it is remote. When you look at the providing or the selling of commodities there I know there is about one or two small stores in that village. When it comes to essential goods in terms of food items and etcetera that is being allowed to be taken into the village. That should not be stopped by any police or military. Whatever the case that may be needed from people in the village family members in Orange Walk town or district can take those to them provided that it is left by the checkpoint. I know that is poses some stress on them. I as the area representative have been n contact with NEMO or Human Development to see what we can do to assist these people. Nevertheless I will be doing something myself personally to reach out to these people.”
