Douglas Villager Detained for Border Jumping

A border jumper from Douglas Village has been detained and placed in quarantine. The man, identified as Miguel Alamilla, was spotted shopping in a community called Javier Rojo Gomez, better known as El Ingenio, sometime over the last few days.  Alamilla was outed as border jumper by Douglas Village Chairman, Javier Osorio.  This morning, Osorio took to Facebook to call on authorities to take action against Alamilla.  Chairman Osorio shared pictures which captured Alamilla, wearing a mask, and seemingly conducting business. In one of the pictures he is seen accompanying sacks of flour and in the another photo he is carrying what appears to be toilet paper and cooking oil in his hands. Osorio’s post on Facebook went viral this morning as he expressed frustrations with the lack of action by the police department and the Ministry of Health in Orange Walk. Osorio says that he received news that the villager was across the border since Monday afternoon and all his calls to the authorities went unanswered, he writes, “It’s already going for three days since the report and nothing is being done…what encouraged me to speak out today was that this morning I saw this individual riding his bike in the village like nothing has happened.” Well, that post did reach the eyes of the Commissioner of Police and a few hours later, ComPol Chester Williams wrote on Facebook that the individual was picked up and placed at a quarantine facility where he is to be tested.  We also know that the commissioner made a trip up to San Jose and Douglas Villages today for a meet and greet with residents to chat about contraband activities and the COVDI-19 risks associated with illegal crossings.
