Faber Says P.U.P.’s Promise of 30% Salary Increase for Teachers is ‘Pretty Talk’

Patrick Faber

According to Faber, improving the quality of education in the country is a daily struggle which requires all hands on deck. He says that the P.U.P.’s pledge to give teachers a thirty percent salary increase is something that the Belize National Teachers Union should question.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“I notice that what they said that they will give a twenty percent increase to the teachers but that twenty percent increase will be tied to their performance. Well I am interested to hear what the B.N.T.U. will say about that because that is pretty talks. Imagine is this U.D.P. administration had said you are only going to get that thirty percent salary adjustment. In fact we said that to some extent and you say how the cry was made bloody murder, how we deserve this, every year we get this. That is the kind of fight that goes to improve the quality of education. So it is always easy when you are in a position to sit back but when you are there and the shoe is on your foot you realize that is it not easy and that you need all hands on deck and all players need to do more. So I reject out of hand what the P.U.P.s said that the ministry being top heavy so to speak.”
