Amendment Will Help Stevedores

Dean Barrow

Prime Minister Barrow also spoke specifically about the exemption from the period of night rest.  He says this will affect the work that stevedores do at the Port of Belize Limited. Here is how he explained it.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“So this help them, it helps the consumer, it help the shipping agents who have said nine hour your stop work the ship goes. It is more of cost for it to go and come back just to bring the rest of the cargo that simply couldn’t been offload after the fifteen hour. That is what it is about. To those who might say that it is inhumane to expect people to work longer than fifteen hours they that is the stevedores and their union they know how they will arrange thing. This is upon their request and it makes what, what has become another love jam between them and Port of Belize Limited. It lessens the expenses. The shippers don’t have to send their ships away after fifteen hours bring them back and of course pass on to consumer the additional cost that doing it in that fashion would have entailed.”
