U.B.F.S.U. Heads into Negotiations on Tuesday!
From saying no to the formal teaching for the opening of the new school year to a seat at the table, the U.B.F.S.U. says that they are heading into negotiations with two major items on the table. Starting on Tuesday, the union and the Board of Trustees will begin talks for a Collective Bargaining Agreement; high on the agenda is the next steps on the issue of financial exigency. Doctor Pio Saqui, President of the U.B.F.S.U. says that last week they held an intervention meeting.
Dr. Pio Saqui, President, U.B.F.S.U.
“The outcome of that meeting, which is very positive in my opinion, I think that we can put that past us – is that on Tuesday, tomorrow at two p.m., the Union and the University Administration have agreed to come to the table to discuss two things that are all inter-related. One of them is the process and timeline for coming up with a CBA which is something very good for us to talk about. And the other big point which is something that we will have to go in detail will be issue of financial exigency and the measures that the President is putting forward. So, at that time we will have a lot to talk about and I don’t know how long that meeting will last. What I can say is that a negotiation, I think, is basically agreed upon that we have to do. We are happy that this is something we can do and maybe we can start and truly communicating with one another in the best way possible right now.”
