Children left home alone, fire kills baby
A baby left in the care of older children burned to death this morning in Dangriga. Initial reports are that six-month old Taraya Castillo was left in the care of her four and five-year old brothers, while their mother, Mary Ann Flores went to work. The boys have told fire officials that shortly after their mother left, they began to play with matches and paper. A fire started and the children were unable to put it out. When fire fighters arrived on the scene just after eight this morning, the entire house was engulfed in flames. It was only after the fire had been put out that officials discovered the body of the baby inside. News Five understands that this is not the first time Flores has left her children by themselves and regularly asks the neighbours to keep an eye on them during her absence. Flores is currently being treated at the Southern Regional Hospital for shock. The fire took place on Second Street in the Benguche area.
