Belize 1-1 in CARICOM basketball

Story Picture
After a long trip and late arrival in Barbados the Belize National Basketball Team finally took its turn on the court. And while the going was rough Tuesday night, by Wednesday morning the squad had hit its stride. In their debut against the U.S. Virgin Islands, Belize, the defending CARICOM champs, looked tired and out of synch as they lost a heartbreaker 64 to 60. Keith Acosta hit for 17 points while Kirk “Shabba” Smith scored 10 in the losing effort. In this morning’s match-up the Belizeans managed to regain their form in an 84 to 65 route of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Acosta and Smith continued to top the scorers with 21 and 18 points respectively, while Smith pulled down an astronomical 18 rebounds. Belize has the tonight off but will go up against Trinidad on Thursday night. A win puts them in the semi-finals on Friday, a loss sends them home. For highlights of Tuesday night’s game against the USVI tune in to Channel Five tonight at 7:30. We will be bringing you both semi-final games live on Friday as well as Saturday night’s championship.
