B.N.T.U. President says Threats Don’t Help the Situation

The University of Belize remains in turmoil and at loggerheads with the U.B.F.S.U.  Earlier this week, the university’s Board of Trustees issued a threat to the teachers, telling them to return to work or face termination.  The letter sent to the union states that if the faculty and staff do not accept the proposed salary cuts and resume teaching, they will end up without a job.   President of the Belize National Teachers Union reminds UB Trustees that threats never make the situation better.

“I trust that the chairman would understand threats don’t help situations and the president or whoever made that decision, that any threats given to employees will not help the situation. I hope that they can understand how making such a statement would amplify the concerns or the employees wanting to take actions based on those kinds of threats. We are hoping that they can come to some sort of agreement and they would then be understand and respect the role of the union that the union plays and come to the table and sit and have discussion with them, meaningful discussion to come to some sort of amicable salon to this issue.”
