BDF volunteers have new leader

His name has been linked to BDF volunteer corps for the past 22 years but now that’s about to change. That’s right, Francis Usher, commander of the Volunteer Battalion today handed over control to Lt. Colonel Edmund Zuniga. The change of command ceremony took place this morning at the Fairweather and Salamanca Camps in the Toledo District. Minister of National Security, Jorge Espat, told the volunteer corps that the challenge now is to attract more civilian volunteers into the force, improving and expanding training and building stronger relationships with communities. Minister Espat says he hopes to increase the strength of the reserve force by as much as fifty percent. Currently, members of the BDF volunteer corps are participating in their annual training exercise in Toledo. As part of their annual service, the citizen soldiers will paint buildings at the Toledo Community College and the Elderly Citizens home and will construct a fence at the Anglican Church.
