Two dead in stabbing, chopping
A Belize City man is dead after being stabbed on Friday night. According to police reports, around 7 o’clock, 16-year old Shawn Meighan was fatally wounded on Lavender Street by a 27-year old construction worker; that man’s name has been withheld by police pending charges. Apparently, Meighan and his attacker had been involved in a previous disagreement. A friend of Meighan’s had tried to intervene, but it is alleged that the construction worker took the opportunity to pull out a knife and stab Meighan in his stomach. Meighan was pronounced dead on arrival at the KHMH. Meanwhile, police have discovered the body of a man missing since June 27th. On Friday, police found the decomposed body of 19-year old Gustavo Contreras in the jungle two miles outside of the Valley of Peace Village in the Cayo District. According to Jorge Contreras, a farmer of Yalbac Village, his son, Gustavo had left Valley of Peace that Tuesday on horseback heading for Yalbac, but never arrived. Police say they observed a chop wound on the neck of Contreras’ body and as such are treating the case as a murder. The motive for this crime is not known and police have yet to make any arrests.
