ComPol Comes Up Big for Guinea Grass!

For the past week and half we have been reporting on the Guinea Grass villagers’ appeal for assistance with the Village Council going so far as to write to the Prime Minister to lift the lockdown because families are in need of food. Well, one person who heard the cries in Guinea Grass is Commissioner of Police Chester Williams. Today, he travelled to the northern village’s checkpoint to hand over two thousand dollars worth of food items. Chairman Benito Uck told us more about the donation – expressing his community’s appreciation for the items.

On the Phone: Benito Uck, Chairman, Guinea Grass

“At midday, the Commissioner of Police reached at the checkpoint and we were there to greet him and to receive the goods that he was handing over to the community. We appreciate his gesture and the donation to our community. That donation will be specifically for children – for the families that have small children of age up to four so that they can receive something. Because what we are getting from human development is the basic food items but this one that Mr. Chester is contributing to the community is specifically for children like little snacks and we really appreciate that contribution.   We have some snacks, chips, biscuits, juice such as the Kool-aid juice and some flour and rice and it is the total of two thousand dollars value of goods.”

“Mr. Benito, what was the reaction of your villagers when they heard they got some?”

On the Phone: Benito Uck

“[Laughs] Their reaction is that they are calling me and texting me and saying please remember me; I haven’t received any help and some have already visited my house asking if I can take their names and phone number. That is what I am doing but at this time we don’t know how many baskets we will get from those amount that we got. I am hoping that we could get enough to give to those individuals that really need it.”
