G.O.B. Follows W.H.O.’s Guidance, No Lockdown of O.W.
With the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the north, will the Orange Walk and Corozal districts face a lockdown in the days ahead? That notion is frowned upon by government which is now taking its cue from the World Health Organization. Recently, the W.H.O. disapproved of the idea of a total lockdown because of the economic ramifications of such a decision.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“If in the main you can trace everything that‘s happening back to the original cluster, we hope that by now we’re getting that cluster or that community spread under control and there is, in my view, no reason to lockdown the district. I had said last week and I felt fortified by the W.H.O. guidance that was issued, you do not resort to a lockdown as a kind of default option. You have to think very carefully, you want to try and put safety first but you also must be conscious of the tremendous havoc that‘s wreaked once you lockdown a district, once you lockdown two districts, once you lockdown the entire country.”
