Two Guats and One Belizean Detained in the South!
Two Guatemalans, who were picked up in the south earlier this week, were placed in a quarantine facility. Thirty-eight-year-old Junior Espinosa and forty-two-year-old Alfredo Colon were detained when they entered the country on two boats carrying contraband goods. Police Officers in Independence Village were tipped off about the vessels and lay waited their arrival at a dock. A search of the boats led to the discovery of the two illegal immigrants, as well as a stash of unaccustomed goods. But police have also detained a Belizean who has claimed ownership of the boats.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Those individuals are in quarantine and as soon as the quarantine is over they will be charged under the S.I, for illegally entering Belize.”

“And in this case it is noteworthy that it is police and not coast guard, right?”
Chester Williams
“Yes, it was police who intercepted them, yes.”
Reporter
“Sir, what happens with the man – the Belizean who showed up claiming the boats?”
Chester Williams
“He is also in quarantine.”
Reporter
“Will he be charged?”
Chester Williams
“We will have to look to see if there is anything to charge him because we would have to prove that he would have left the country and came back in.”
