Summer programmes hosted by the Belize Arts Council
The summer holidays are fast approaching and if you still don’t know where to send your children, listen up because we just might have some options you might like. This year the Belize Arts Council is holding 3 different kinds of camps that will be sure to have the children exploring their creative side. The camps include painting, music and dance. The first programme, “Every Child Is A Star” gets underway on Monday, June 26th. It will last for 6 months and focuses on drawing and painting with water colours. If it’s music you appreciate, then Luis Chan, the National Music Coordinator invites you to his annual Specialized Summer Music Camp 2000 at Trinidad farm. The camps’ coordinators say there will be something for children of all ages.

“Susanne tell us about the programme “Every Child Is A star?”
Susanne Kohrman, Coordinator, Painting Programme
“Well its a programme that Miss Bev has thought about, brought up and she really named it very well because we feel that if you take children in early then you can go and teach them, then they will become a star when they get older.”
Jacqueline Woods
“Tell us about the classes that they will be taking.”
Susanne Kohrman
“We are going to have water colors classes in the beginning and then also afterwards we are going to have soft pastel classes.”

“Mister Chan, what will be happening at summer camp 2000.”
Luis Chan, Coordinator, Music Camp
“Okay, we are excited because this time we are going to teach music along with the instruments, starting with instruments such as the flute, the clarinet, including all the instruments of the orchestra, not excluding the drums. Basically, most young people like to play drums, so we are going to have a rhythm section, with drums. It’s open to children from age 12 to 22. We are inviting all young Belizean musicians, who want to upgrade their musical ability, all those who want to learn to read music and play and instrument. We want them to come, come to the Belize Arts Council office, located #27 Regent Street at the Macmillan upper flat building and we could have them registered and from there we can go on to get them into the band.”
If you don’t have any instruments, don’t worry, Chan says those will be provided. Meanwhile the Belize Arts Council invites children between the ages of 8 and 13-years old to participate in a music and dance camp. The classes will be conducted by Evelyn Mosqea, the vocal coordinator and cost $50. If you are interested in any of the camps mentioned, you can register your children at the Belize Arts Council at #27 Regent Street.
