Four elected to CFZ board of directors
In Corozal this morning, 4 private sector representatives were elected to the board of directors of the Commercial Free Zone. By any of Belize’s election statistics, eligible voters turned out in record numbers to elect Vince Waight, Guadelupe Longsworth, Winston Smiling and Hipolito Bautista to serve for 2 years on the zone’s board. Chief Executive Officer of CFZ Rodney Neal, says there are approximately 154 “registered voters” and a whopping 108 participated in the elections. The main function of the CFZ board of directors is to control what happens inside the zone. According to CEO Neal, one issue sure to receive high priority right off the bat is the issue of fencing. While chain link does line the zone, Neal says there is urgent need for a fence that’s higher and sturdier to ensure adequate security. News Five understands that the fence in place now continues to fend off attacks from people trying to enter the zone illegally.
