Two Ladyville men charged with aggravated assault

Story PictureA contractor and a construction worker from Ladyville appeared in Magistrates’ Court today accused of attacking thirty-five year old Ignacio Villanueva. The contractor, thirty-six year old Eric Lewis, who also uses the last name Savery, was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Wounding for allegedly pistol whipping Villanueva. Lewis pleaded not guilty, but was remanded into custody until April twenty-first because a firearm was used in the assault. Meanwhile, nineteen year old construction worker Rene Chavarria, who reportedly stabbed Villanueva with an ice pick, had to answer to charges Aggravated Assault and Wounding. Chavarria also pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of four thousand dollars before his case was adjourned until April twenty-first. Villanueva reported to police that just after twelve a.m. on March twenty-eighth, he was standing in front of M.J.’s Night Club on Newtown Barracks when he was approached by a group of six men, two of whom attacked him. He says one man punched him in the mouth and hit him with a gun and the other stabbed him under his nose with the ice pick.
