House of Culture offers summer programmes
If you’ve been wondering how to keep your children out of trouble over the summer with as little impact as possible to your wallet, the House of Culture might be just the thing. According to Jason Guerrero, percussion and painting will prevail and they should keep those idle fingers interested and occupied.

“Percussion because Belize is so much into rhythm, the country, no matter what the culture is. We’ve just gotten off a Garifuna drumming program which did quite well and we decided to broaden that into the area of percussion, so this course will focus on all percussion instruments, maracas, congas, anything “percussionable” and so that’s the reason for the percussion. As for the painting, that’s just an extension of what we started last year and the year before. We’ve had very successful painting courses, drawing courses, so this is a continuation of that. It doesn’t mean that people who have not taken the course before cannot be involved. In fact, we’re focusing on those people, hoping that people who have never taken art classes before, will sign up for the painting. In arts and craft, we’re got an excellent teacher for arts and craft and what she will be doing is to teach students how to recycle old things. For instance the toilet paper roll and all of these things that you find around your house and how to reuse them, make them into new, usable items.”
There is an initial registration fee of $5 and you will need to purchase other materials as the courses progress, but Guerrero promises to keep expenses at a minimum. For you Belmopan parents, a two month Garifuna drumming course is set to begin on July 1st and every Saturday there on through August 26th. Spaces are limited in all these courses so sign up now.
