Police Department links up with community
If you saw a large contingent of police officers in downtown Belize City, it was not because of any disturbances or discount shopping, but rather the police officers were on a friendly beat. The cops, representing the police community team and Zone Beat Liaison Officers programme visited the business community where they spoke with shop owners about burglaries and crime prevention. The activity is part of the Law Enforcement Officer’s Link Up 2000 Programme.
P.C Gerald Jones, Zone Beat Liaison Officer
“We want to let the public know that we are out here 24/7, securing them and let them know that the presence of the police officer is always there.”
Jacqueline Woods
“What has the response been like?”
P.C. Gerald Jones
“The response has been good, very good because people have been cooperating with us and we have had a good amount of feedback and good response from the business places most importantly.”
Last week, the police visited a number of primary schools and spoke to students on how to have a safe summer holiday. Today’s Link Up was headed by Senior Superintendent of Police, Crispin Jeffries, Officer in Charge of the Eastern Division.
