St. George’s Caye Day Celebrated Virtually
The Battle of St. George’s Caye this year did not have the traditional merrymaking and the vibe of the street parade. For the first time in two hundred and twenty-two years, the event was celebrated virtually on Thursday morning. With the number of COVID-19 cases still on the rise in Belize, the traditional Tenth of September Celebration was set aside this year, save for a few addresses that were delivered virtually. Those speeches were given by Minister of Culture and Chair of the September Celebrations Commission Patrick Faber, as well as Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner. Queen of Bay Mira Sibrian was installed to reign for one year. Here’s a look back at the online St. George’s Caye Day event.
