P.M. in Britain to strengthen relations
Prime Minister Said Musa is in the United Kingdom seeking to improve relations with the nation that once held the reins of power here. On Wednesday Musa met with Robin Cook, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. According to a Belize government release, Great Britain is still strongly supportive of Belize’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and all efforts to resolve the dispute with Guatemala. In meetings with Defence Minister John Speller, Musa was assured of the continued presence of BATSUB, the British training unit stationed here, and that within the next two months the long awaited Defender aircraft will be delivered to the Belize Defence Force. Although no promises were made, the British government will consider a request to provide the BDF with increased financial and technical support in order to more effectively patrol our borders. Prime Minister Musa will remain in the mother country until Saturday.
