St. John’s Infant students compete in general knowledge
It’s not “Jeopardy” but for the students of St. John’s Infant School, competition in their general knowledge contest is just as intense. The students in the hot seat answered questions on subjects like science, social studies and a little bit of espanol. This afternoon, News Five stopped by the school for the final practice round before the real McKoy got underway.
Shelmadine Williams, Std One Teacher, St. John’s
“We had 8 contestants, at first we had more than that, but we eliminated them at school and we gave them a list with 90 questions to study, 90 items and the 8 who did the best, those are the ones entering the contest.”
“At the end of the 3rd round, the children who have the highest marks, they will be ones going on to the winning round, we’ll be eliminating at the end of the 3rd round. And then for the 4th round they’ll start dropping out as they miss a question.”

“Now tell me what’s the idea of having a contest like this?”
Shelmadine Williams
“To expose the children because we find out that some of the children never do anything apart from being here at school so we wanted to do something a little extra for them. This is like an extra curricular something.”
Prizes for the winners of the contest included schoolbags and books. This is the second time St. John’s has held this general knowledge contest for its students. At news time we were unable to get the name of the winning student.
