Mrs. Musa addresses UN special assembly
Prime Minister Said Musa is not the only family member involved in diplomacy. On Friday his wife Joan, Head of the Women’s Commission and special envoy to the United Nations, addressed that body’s general assembly which was meeting to follow up on the Women’s Summit held in China five years ago. In her address Musa reported on positive developments in Belize since 1995, including a decrease in domestic violence and improved health services for women. But she also highlighted areas in which more work needs to be done, including poverty alleviation and the growing problem of HIV infection, especially among low-income women. In addition to Mrs. Musa, the Belize delegation to the special UN session included Anita Zetina, Jewel Quallo and Florence Dillet.
